The cooperation framework is an agreement between the UN and Vietnam to work together, highlighting joint commitment to achieving the key Sustainable Development Goals and national development priorities in the next five years.

Addressing the event, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung said: “The framework was signed and delivered simultaneously with Vietnam’s solutions to promote economic recovery after the pandemic, respond to climate change, and transition to a green, circular economy.

“This is a strategic guiding document for both UN and Vietnamese agencies to work on specific programs and projects, identifying areas of more effective cooperation, phase out duplication, saving time and management costs of the stakeholders.”

He also acknowledged the crucial role of the UN in supporting Vietnam in the country’s growth and integration in relation to global development.

The Vietnamese government and the UN have outlined four key development outcomes expected following the implementation of this framework, which are inclusive social development, climate change response, disaster resilience and environmental sustainability, shared prosperity through economic transformation, and governance and access to justice.

Pauline Tamesis, the UN Resident Coordinator to Vietnam, said at the signing ceremony: “The principle of ‘leaving no one behind’ runs through the framework as the fundamental commitment of the UN in Vietnam.

“I feel confident that we - who are present here today - are agents of change, ensuring that Vietnam can tap into its adaptive, industrious and growing population to spur long-term sustainable development for all while protecting the planet.”

“Together, we can improve the way we utilize non-traditional resources, find innovative cost-sharing agreements, and team up with the private sector to bring about sustainable financing.”

The 2022 - 2026 One Strategic Framework for Sustainable Development Cooperation was introduced following the completion of the 2017 - 2021 One Strategic Plan between the UN and Vietnam.
