How long can foreign workers stay with Vietnam visas?
Foreigners who are eligible for grant of work permits or qualified for working in Vietnam under the labor law will be granted work visas, which are long-stay or short-stay depending on several factors.
Under the current immigration management law, 1 short-stay work visas with a validity period of up to three months are granted to foreigners who enter Vietnam to work with enterprises or other legal entities in accordance with Vietnam’s law (DN1 visas) or to offer sale of services, establish commercial presence or perform other activities under treaties to which Vietnam is a contracting party (DN2 visas).
Meanwhile, long-stay work visas, which are valid for at most 12 months, are granted to foreign workers who have obtained certificates of exemption from work permits (LĐ1 visas) or work permits (LĐ2 visas). Particularly, the validity duration of a work visa granted to a foreigner whose work permit is valid for less than one year will equal the validity period of his work permit.
In case a foreigner wishes to be granted a work visa with a validity period of over 12 months, he may apply for a temporary residence card, which will be valid for between one year and 10 years, depending on his circumstance.-(VLLF)
