Party General Secretary and State President To Lam on September 23 (local time) met with members of the Vietnam Innovation Network and Vietnamese experts in the US, as part of his US trip for the 79th UN General Assembly's high-level week in New York.
Leaders of the Vietnam Innovation Network expressed their commitment to fostering a startup community that contributes to both development in the US and Vietnam's startup ecosystem.
They emphasized the need for Vietnam to focus on developing high-quality human resources and attracting foreign investment, particularly in research and development, and at the same time called for more specialized seminars to attract talents and support the country's business strategy and market expansion.
The experts expressed their desire to introduce more businesses to invest in Vietnam and urged the Vietnamese government to create policies that ensure the businesses' effective operations.
Party General Secretary, President To Lam highlighted the importance of this meeting as a moment to reflect on past achievements and discuss future goals, particularly in connecting knowledge, experience, and resources between Vietnam and the Vietnamese expert community in the US.
He stressed that the country is entering a pivotal era - the period of sprint for the Vietnamese revolution to reach its goals 100 years under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and to mark the centenary of the modern Vietnam.
Lam acknowledged and highly valued the efforts of the Ministry of Planning and Investment in establishing and developing the Vietnam Innovation Network, as well as the active contributions by the network's members and Vietnamese experts in the US in major programs and projects of Vietnam, and their meaningful efforts in promoting the role and resources of the community of Vietnamese experts and intellectuals around the world in directly participating in contributing to and improving the homeland's scientific, technological, and innovation capacity.
He highlighted that after Vietnam and the US upgraded their relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, the Joint Statement agreed to promote cooperation in training and capacity building in the fields of semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) so that Vietnam can participate in the global value chain. To achieve this, Vietnam needs to focus on building high-quality human resources to meet future development needs in the direction of digital transformation and green transformation based on innovation, he emphasized.
The top leader suggested that the network continue to promote its connection role, expand the participation of new members, and strengthen the cooperation among Vietnamese and international experts and intellectuals for the homeland's long-term benefits.
He affirmed that the extensive participation of the Vietnamese community of experts and intellectuals around the world not only contributes to solving technical and technological challenges but also opens up new opportunities for extensive cooperation in science, technology, and innovation with the world's leading partners.
Lam asserted that the network needs to build stronger international links, sharing knowledge and applying advanced technologies to the country's development process, while promoting its role as a bridge of knowledge and technology, and bringing the world's quintessence and progress to Vietnam.
He said he believes that the close coordination at home and abroad among agencies and organizations of the system is a decisive factor in achieving major goals of breakthrough significance for Vietnam to realize its growth target based on the foundation of high-tech science and technology development and innovation in the new era.- (VNA/VLLF)
