By 2030, the Mekong River delta’s annual growth rate will increase by 6.5-7 percent with its economy’s size 2-2.5 times bigger than that in 2021.
Such is provided under the action plan to implement Political Bureau’s Resolution 13-NQ/TW on orientations for socio-economic development and defense-security assurance in the Mekong River delta until 2030, with a vision toward 2045, enacted under Resolution 78/NQ-CP.

Accordingly, it is targeted that the proportions of agro-forestry-fisheries, industry-construction, and service sectors will account for 20 percent, 32 percent and 46 percent of the GRDP, respectively.
At the same time, the per-capita GRDP will reach VND 146 million per year, urbanization rate will be 42-48 percent, and 80 percent of regional communes will attain the new countryside standards, of which 30 percent will conform to advanced standards.
Besides, the percentage of trained laborers is expected to reach 65 percent, of whom those possessing academic degrees or training certificates will account for 25 percent; and the percentage of laborers engaged in the non-agriculture sector will rise to 75-80 percent.
In the health sector, by 2030, there will be 30 hospital beds, 10 doctors, 2.8 pharmacists possessing university degrees and 25 nurses for every 10,000 population.
Poverty rate will be reduced by 1.5-2 percent annually.
Under the Resolution, Can Tho city will be developed into a service, trade, health, education and training, science and technology, culture, tourism and modern processing industry center, while My Tho, Tan An, Long Xuyen, Rach Gia, Ca Mau and Soc Trang cities will be built into general service or special service centers.
Phu Quoc island will become an international center for services, high-quality ecotourism of the national and international statures in connection with major economic centers in the country and the world.
Another target set for 2030 is to complete an expressway network connecting the region with the southeastern region.
The action plan also requires strengthening national defense and security in combination with economic, cultural and social development under feasible master plans, schemes and plans, associated with assurance of economic and cyber security in any circumstances.-
