DECREE No. 21/2008/ ND-CP: Environmental protection regulations revised

Under Decree No. 21/2008/ ND-CP of February 28, revising a number of articles of Decree No. 80/2006/ND-CP of August 9, 2006 which details and guides the implementation of the Environmental Protection Law, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is responsible for revising national standards on environmental quality and waste management promulgated before January 1, 2007, converting them into national technical regulations and elaborating new ones and coefficients for application of these regulations to different regions and branches. Provincial/municipal People’s Committees will promulgate local technical regulations on waste which are suitable to their particularities and stricter than relevant national technical regulations.

All projects on construction of infrastructure of industrial parks, hi-tech parks, export processing zones and groups of traditional craft villages, projects likely to exert adverse impacts on water resources of river basins, coastal regions and regions with protected ecosystems, and projects for building supermarkets, markets with 200 stalls or more, hospitals with 50 patient beds or more, and hotels with 100 rooms or more are liable to make environmental impact assessment reports.-
