The country was expected to lure a total of USD 8.32 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) during the first eight months, according to a report of the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) under the Planning and Investment Ministry.
The figure included USD 7.1 billion poured into 814 new projects and the remainder in 247 existing ones.
According to the FIA, foreign investors have so far registered a capital amount totaling USD 50 billion for 50 projects in the country.
It is expected that Vietnam will attract a total of USD 13 billion in FDI this year and USD 14.5 billion in 2008.
In the same period, Vietnamese businesses invested USD 1.2 billion in 227 offshore projects, 65% of which were in industry, the remainder was in agriculture and services.-
