The Ministry of Public Security is tasked to direct its functional units to monitor the situation and set up special projects to raze smuggling rings and illegal transportation of wild animals and wildlife products, including elephant ivory.

The Ministry must direct functional units to boost investigation of ivory smuggling cases detected in recent times and work with the Supreme People's Procuracy and the Supreme People's Court to quickly put these cases under prosecution under law.

The Deputy Prime Minister urged the Ministry of Finance to direct the customs to increase inspection, supervision and control of exports and imports transported on the road, at sea and by air; and coordinate with relevant forces to strictly handle illegal transportation of wild animals and wildlife products.

Although many efforts have been made in combating the international illegal transportation of wild animals, the processing and sale of wildlife products remain complicated in several localities, challenging law enforcement.

In order to prevent this situation, the Prime Minister has issued a Directive and other documents asking state agencies and provincial administrations to inspect and strictly handle wildlife smuggling, especially for ivory and rhino horns.- (VLLF)
