Ho Chi Minh City will break ground on and inaugurate 16 major projects to mark the 81st anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 – 2026) and National Day (September 2, 1945 – 2026), contributing to local economic growth and improving living conditions.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, the southern metropolis will start 11 projects and put five works into operation in transport, technical infrastructure, housing, civil construction and industry, with total investment exceeding VND 249.4 trillion (USD 9.5 billion).
Five new transport projects are expected to modernise the city's transport network and strengthen regional connectivity, particularly with Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai city.
They include the VND 134 trillion Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway project; Component Project 3 to upgrade and expand National Highway 1 from Kinh Duong Vuong street to the former Tay Ninh provincial boundary, with an investment of VND 6.674 trillion; and Component Project 2 to upgrade and expand National Highway 13 from Binh Trieu Bridge to the former Binh Duong provincial boundary, costing VND 6.276 trillion. Two component projects to build expressway sections of Ring Road 4, with a combined investment of VND 11.826 trillion, are also among the projects.
The city will also launch projects in water supply and drainage, environmental sanitation and social housing.
A water environment improvement project in the former Binh Duong area will get underway with an investment of VND 7.2 trillion. It includes a package to increase the capacity of the Thuan An wastewater treatment plant by 20,000 cu.m. per day.
Five social housing projects will also be launched, including the Ba Diem social housing urban area; a project under the Ma Lang and Cho Ga - Gao urban regeneration project in Ben Thanh Ward; Dong Thanh social housing apartments in Tan Dong Hiep Ward; Le Thanh Tan Tao 2 apartments; and a social housing cluster under the Tien Phuoc residential project in the Nam Thanh Pho new urban area.
Meanwhile, the renovated Ho Chi Minh Museum – Ho Chi Minh City Branch, costing VND 68.7 billion, and a housing complex for HCM City police officers in Dong Hung Thuan Ward, with an investment of VND 1.1 trillion, will be inaugurated.
To welcome the 2026 - 2027 academic year, three school projects will also be inaugurated, namely Vo Truong Toan High School in Tan Thoi Hiep ward, Tran Van Giau High School in Binh Loi Trung ward and Marie Curie High School in Xuan Hoa ward.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance said the implementation of major projects is important to public investment disbursement and the city's goal of achieving double-digit economic growth.
It added that accelerated site clearance and relocation of technical infrastructure have helped ensure project progress, enabling new projects to break ground and completed works to be put into operation on schedule, supporting the city's socio-economic development.- (VNA/VLLF)
