It is necessary to raise the role of the National Assembly (NA) in legal and judicial reform, said NA Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Kien on February 4 at a seminar on the issue, organized by the European Commission-funded Institutional Support Project to Vietnam.
Lacking experience, Vietnam’s legal system is still incomplete, causing difficulties to law enforcement and judicial bodies, Mr. Kien said, suggesting greater efforts to build and complete institutions.
A delegate of the European Commission said the project, in coordination with the NA’s Office, the Ministry of Justice, the Supreme People’s Court and the Supreme People’s Procuracy, has attained good results, greatly contributing to legal and judicial reform in Vietnam.
Strengthening legal and judicial systems would not only bring benefits to legislative and relevant bodies but also help reduce poverty in long term, said a high-ranking expert of the Commission.
Many legal experts also agreed that legal and judicial reform helped eliminate hunger and reduce poverty in Vietnam.-
