Ministries and government agencies have met the Government’s deadlines to submit their reports assessing their administrative procedures, Minister-Chief of the Government Office Nguyen Xuan Phuc said at a meeting on June 17 to assess the Government’s project on simplification of administrative procedures (Project 30).

However, a number of proposals to reform administrative procedures were very general and unpersuasive, the Minister said, citing that some ministries and agencies even proposed cutting current administrative procedures without providing any reason.

Among 24 ministries and agencies that have submitted their reports, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies had given poor assessment of their administrative procedures, Phuc said, urging ministers and heads of government agencies to be more proactive in implementing Project 30 as it would not only bring financial benefits but also more importantly build confidence among people and businesses in the Government.

According to Ngo Hai Phan, deputy head of the Prime Minister’s Administrative Procedures Reform Task Force, ministries and government agencies have reportedly reviewed 5,500 administrative procedures and proposed to eliminate 453, replace 288 and revise 3,749 in order to create convenience for citizens and businesses. They are required to submit to the Prime Minister a final report on administrative procedure reform no later than July 31.-
