Vietnam shared the international community’s concerns about nuclear terrorism and condemned terrorism in all forms, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said at the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington on April 13.

At the two-day meeting, he emphasized that Vietnam always puts safety and security as top priority in the process of developing nuclear energy. The nation has actively established a legal basis and administrative agencies for supervising the use of nuclear materials and radioactive substances.

The Prime Minister stressed that the country had decided to join the Convention on Nuclear Safety and advocated the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism.

He affirmed Vietnam’s support for the directions and methods defined in the draft documents of the summit, including raising the effectiveness of current international conventions and systems, upholding the responsibility of nations and mobilizing the participation of the nuclear industry, organizations and individuals in complying with international laws and responsibilities.

The summit approved the joint statement and action plan for nuclear security, stating the commitments of participating countries in strengthening nuclear security and minimizing nuclear terrorism.

During the summit, Prime Minister Dung witnessed the signing of two cooperation agreements between Vietnamese groups and US partners, including a contract on funding for the Lam Dong bauxite complex project in the Central Highlands of Vietnam and a contract for long-term oil and gas cooperation.-
