The Government as well as concerned ministries and sectors should take drastic measures to stabilize the economy and control inflation at 7 per cent, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said on May 5 at the cabinet regular meeting, which reviewed socio-economic development and macroeconomic management during the first quarter.

“The Government has handled macroeconomic matters in a way that the consumer price index is likely to go down, lending rates are gradually decreasing and exports are increasing,” the Prime Minister said.

He asked ministries, sectors and localities to boost exports while limiting the import of unnecessary goods and products to reduce the trade deficit.

The Government leader outlined five tasks to be performed for the attainment of socio-economic development goals this year, including increasing development investment, ensuring social security, simplifying administrative procedures and fighting corruption.-
