Vietnam on January 2 began to take part in activities of the United Nations Security Council by attending the political coordinators’ meeting to prepare for the Council’s agenda for January 2008.

“This is an opportunity for us to gain more experience to better accomplish our work in the immediate and long run future,” said Mr. Dang Hoang Giang, political coordinator of the Vietnamese delegation.

Vietnam will exert the best efforts to ensure that it will fulfill its responsibility as a non-permanent member of the Council, he added.

According to Vietnamese ambassador to the UN Le Luong Minh, the country has made good preparations to assume its role as presidency of the Council in July 2008.-
