All branches and levels should strive to lessen impacts of the global economic downturn and achieve the 2009 growth target of 5 per cent, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said at the monthly cabinet meeting, held in Hanoi on July 6-7.

To this end, the Prime Minister called on all agencies, localities and branches to implement the Government’s stimulus plan and to be proactive in boosting production and business, particularly in agriculture.

To achieve the 5-per cent growth target and socio-economic goals set in June by the National Assembly, a number of solutions have been introduced, including flexible financial policies and measures to stabilize the macro economy, control inflation and assure social welfare, the meeting heard.

The Government leader pointed to the importance of reliable financial forecasts, and the mass media’s role in encouraging the entire society to implement the Party’s and Government’s guidelines, policies and resolutions on socio-economic development.

During the meeting, cabinet members focused their discussions on the country’s socio-economic performance in the first half and government plans for the second half of the year.
