The role of society in Vietnam’s effort to fight corruption was emphasized at The 2007 Anti-Corruption Dialogue in Hanoi on December 3.

The dialogue partners, including the Government Inspectorate, the National Anti-Corruption Steering Committee and the Swedish Embassy, all agreed on the need to give social organizations power to develop anti-corruption policies and activities.

The gathering was held to provide the latest information about the fight against corruption and its challenges to Vietnam’s development partners.

It also enabled participants to promote mobilization of all resources and ensure coordinated action between Vietnamese agencies and between Vietnam and its development partners.

The dialogue participants highlighted the crucial role of public administrations, the mass media, non-governmental organizations and the business community in anti-corruption efforts.

They also devoted much of their discussion to suggesting ways to curb corruption within the education system.

A report of Danish experts acknowledged Vietnam’s progress since the enactment of the 2006 Anti-Corruption Law but suggested that the Government do more to consolidate public trust in the anti-corruption campaign.-
