The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee opened its fourth session on December 17, focusing on preparations for the XIIth NA’s third session and lawmaking work, among others.

The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee opened its fourth session on December 17, focusing on preparations for the XIIth NA’s third session and lawmaking work, among others.

At this weeklong meeting, the Standing Committee will consider and approve its 2008 oversight and external activities program; examine its assisting apparatus and consider the establishment of a legislative research institute.

The Committee will discuss the draft ordinance revising a number of articles of the Ordinance on Vietnam Coast Guards and the draft ordinance on the defense industry. It will also consider pilot policies allowing foreigners to buy houses associated with residential land use rights in Vietnam.

According to the National Assembly Office, the XIIth NA will consider and pass 13 bills at its third session, to be held from May 6 to June 13, 2008.

At this session, NA deputies will consider reports on supervision of the implementation of policies and laws related to the socialization of public healthcare activities, and reports on the settlement of citizens’ petitions.-
