Region-based minimum wage set to rise
Under Government Decree No. 103/2014/ND-CP, from January 1, 2015, the region-based monthly minimum wage will be increased by between VND 250,000 and 400,000.

Under Government Decree No. 103/2014/ND-CP, from January 1, 2015, the region-based monthly minimum wage will be increased by between VND 250,000 and 400,000.

The new regulation applies to enterprises, cooperatives, household businesses, foreign companies and international organizations operating in Vietnam.

The minimum wage will be applied in four different regions of the country with four separate benchmarks determined by living standards in each area.

The thresholds will be VND 2.15 million, VND 2.4 million, VND 2.75 million and VND 3.1 million.

The new regulation stipulates that skilled employees that have received vocational training or higher-level training must be paid at least 7 percent higher than the region-based minimum wage for employees, and encourages enterprises to pay their employees more than the region-based minimum wages.

When applying the region-based minimum wages, enterprises may not abolish or reduce the wage amounts payable to their employees who work overtime, at night or in heavy or hazardous working conditions.

The new regulation replaces Government Decree No. 182/2013/ND-CP of November 14, 2013.-
