Tetra Pak Binh Duong’s new solar panels to cut down more than 700 tons of CO2 emission a year
“Tetra Pak is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions across the company’s operations to net zero by 2030. The installation of solar panels on the factory roof is part of our journey to realizing this goal”, said Mr. Eliseo Barcas, Managing Director of Tetra Pak Vietnam.

Tetra Pak has completed the installation of solar panels for its packaging material factory in Binh Duong Province after six months of construction. Covering close to 5,900m2, the solar panels can generate approximately 1.9 thousand MWh of renewable energy each year, helping to reduce over 700 tons of CO2 emissions. This effort represents Tetra Pak's pledge to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across its business operations.

Tetra Pak Binh Duong will continue researching and implementing the Common Energy Monitoring Platform (CEMP) to optimize energy usage

“This further affirms Tetra Pak’s commitment in sustainable development and in supporting food and beverage manufacturers in increasing their sustainability credential by using our carton packaging products."

To achieve this goal, Tetra Pak Binh Duong will continue researching and implementing the Common Energy Monitoring Platform (CEMP) to optimize energy usage. This platform will connect the operational parameters of the factory, thereby optimizing the energy used for operations. In the long term, this will help the factory reduce unnecessary energy consumption and improve energy efficiency.

Since 2020, Tetra Pak Binh Duong has been awarded the highest certification in construction and operation standards, LEED v4 Gold, which helps the factory save 2 million liters of water per year, reuse and recycle 90% of its waste, and decrease 4,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.

Protecting food safety and quality is one of the three pillars of Tetra Pak's promise to protecting what's good, including food, people and the planet.

Out of 82 factories in Vietnam's FMCG and packaging sector, Tetra Pak Binh Duong was the first plant to achieve the AA+ grade rating in 2023 - the highest rating for an unannounced audit according to the BRCGS standard - a quality management system standard created by the British Retail Consortium.

The Binh Duong province factory was put into operation in mid-2019, becoming the 8th factory of Tetra Pak Group (Sweden) in the Asia Pacific region. The factory specializes in producing sterilized carton packages for the domestic market and exporting to countries in ASEAN, Australia and New Zealand.

Despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, Tetra Pak reaffirmed its confidence in Vietnam's economic rebound and its continuing commitment to support food and beverage producers by announcing an additional investment of €5 million in its Binh Duong packaging material factory. The investment increased its annual output from 11.5 billion to 16.5 billion packages, empowering the factory to produce premium carton packages to replace imports.
