Typhoon-hit localities receive emergency aid

The Prime Minister has decided to allocate VND 100 billion (some USD 4 million) from the 2024 central budget reserve to support five provinces hit by super typhoon Yagi.

Under decision 943 QD-TTg signed by Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc on September 9, the beneficiary localities include Nam Dinh (VND 20 billion), Thai Binh (VND 30 billion), Hai Duong (VND 20 billion), Yen Bai (VND 20 billion), and Hung Yen (VND 10 billion).

Local authorities are tasked with using the funds efficiently and transparently, ensuring compliance with legal regulations.

Also on September 9, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society also provided emergency relief, valued at over VND 720 million in cash and supplies, to 900 families severely affected by typhoon Yagi in Quang Ninh province and Hai Phong city.

Quang Ninh reported huge damage, including over 2,000 houses with roof damage, sunken ships, broken electric poles, and flooded rice fields. Meanwhile, Hai Phong saw big damage to homes, schools, and agricultural cultivation areas, with two fatalities and 13 injuries.

Hanoi has also contributed VND 51 billion sourced from its relief fund to help 11 provinces and cities recover from the typhoon.- (VLLF)
