Vietnam and India pledge to boost bilateral cooperation

Vietnam and India had made important progress in recent years since the establishment of strategic partnership in 2007, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Indian President Pranab Mukherjee agreed on November 20 during the former’s four-day state visit to India.

The two leaders discussed the importance of boosting trade and investment and implementing joint projects in oil exploitation and the construction of power plants, in reaching a two-way trade turnover of USD 7 billion by 2015.

Meeting with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the two leaders emphasized that India-Vietnam relationship was a time tested friendship, characterized by shared interests, mutual trust and multi-dimensional cooperation. They agreed to further strengthen and deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries, contributing to peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

The leaders welcomed the signing of a joint statement, bilateral agreements and MoUs, and called on relevant authorities to initiate steps for early implementation of these agreements.

The signed documents included an Air Service Agreement, an MoU for establishment of the India Gandhi Hi-Tech Crime Laboratory in Hanoi, an Agreement on Protection of Classified Information, an MoU between the two Ministries of Finance, a Cooperation Agreement between Hanoi National University and Indian Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, an MoU on Cooperation between India Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore and Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Public Administration, an MoU between Vietnam Oil and Gas Group and ONGC Videsh Limited (OVL), and an MoU between Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Trade and Tata Power Ltd. on development of Long Phu 2 Thermal Power Project in Soc Trang province.-
