Vietnam, Australia boost legislative cooperation

Vietnam’s National Assembly (NA) wants to expand dialogue with the Australian House of Representatives in all fields to share information, build trust and promote mutual understanding, said NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung in talks with Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives Anna Burke in Hanoi on May 22.

Hung described Burke’s three-day visit to Vietnam as a highlight at a time when the two countries are celebrating 40 years of bilateral relationship.

He also praised exchanges of delegations between the two countries’ parliaments, especially the Friendship Parliamentarians Groups and leaders of the two legislatures.

Both sides agreed to make it easier for their enterprises to boost trading activities, encourage Australian businesses to invest more in Vietnam, and facilitate the implementation of Vietnam-invested projects in Australia.

They also reached consensus on further accelerating cooperation projects in education, labor and national defense and security for peace and development in the region and the world.

Speaker Burke stressed the importance of cooperation between the two legislatures, saying it has contributed to raising cooperation effectiveness between the two governments.

Following their talks, Hung and Burke signed a cooperation agreement between the two legislatures, under which the two sides would promote the exchange of high-level visits and delegations at all levels, and work closely at multilateral forums.

They will also exchange publications on legal systems and relevant issues to learn experience from each other.-
