Updated: 09:45’ - 29/08/2008

Participants to the “Public-private partnership (PPP): Japan’s experience and Vietnam’s selection of policies” workshop exchanged views on current policies on and the application of this model of partnership in Vietnam.

The workshop, held on August 20 in Hanoi by the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Japan International Cooperation Agency, aims to raise government agencies’ and businesses’ awareness about the importance of PPP model in mobilizing all resources for infrastructure development.

It discussed Asian and Japanese experience in applying PPP model to power industry development as well as Japanese experience in financing PPP projects.

Vietnam’s poor infrastructure not only constitutes a barrier to its development but also adversely affects the attraction and competitiveness of its investment environment, said Vice Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Bich Dat.

The Government would, apart from further improving regulations on investment in the form of BOT, BTO, BT contracts, formulate appropriate policies to promote PPP, the vice minister said.-
