Three resolutions concerning the youth, intellectuals and farmers were adopted at the seventh plenum of the Party Central Committee, held in Hanoi from July 9-17.

These include a Resolution on promoting Party leadership to the youth movement in industrialization and modernization, a Resolution on building a pool of intellectuals in the context of international economic integration, and a Resolution on supporting agriculture, farmers and rural areas.

Young people are the nation’s future masters and should be put in the center of the country’s human resource development strategy, Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh said at the closing session.

According to the resolution on youth, the country’s education and training system should be thoroughly renewed so that students would have more opportunities to study, nurture their own visions, master advanced technologies and continue the nation’s revolutionary cause.

The resolution on intellectuals predicts that by 2020, Vietnam will have a strong pool of intellectuals capable of competing with those in developed countries.

To this end, the resolution puts forward such solutions as offering a favorable working environment for intellectuals, promoting democracy in scientific, educational and cultural activities, providing sufficient funds for research and development, and improving laws in order to define responsibilities, rights and benefits of intellectuals.

The agricultural sector must be modernized in a sustainable manner with internationally competitive products and ensure national food security in the long and short term, according to the resolution on the issue of agriculture, farmers and rural areas.-
