In order to strengthen the forest fire fighting force from the central to local level for controlling and reducing risk and damage of forest fires and effectively fighting forest fires, the Prime Minister on October 28, issued Decision No. 1938/QD-TTg, approving the scheme to build the forest fire fighting capacity in the 2014-20 period.
Accordingly, the scheme focuses on upgrading forest fire warning and forecasting system in the Forest Protection Department of the Vietnam Administration of Forestry and networking it in all localities; early detecting forest fires, including widespread forest fire detection through remote sensing images of the Forest Protection Department; consolidating specialized forest fire fighting forces; training to improve professional qualifications and skills of administrators and technicians, related agencies’ officers in charge of forest fire prevention; and building a unified and effective forest fire control model.
The Decision, which takes effect on October 28, approves such solutions as completing forest fire fighting mechanisms and policies; intensifying education and improving awareness about the prevention and fighting of forest fires; applying modern remote sensing and information technology in forest fire prevention; and increasing international cooperation in forest fire fighting, especially with ASEAN members in the implementation of the Agreement on Transboundary Haze Pollution.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is responsible for the implementation of the scheme.-
