From April 15, the time limit for granting visa exemption certificates will be shortened to five days from current seven days.
According to Prime Minister Decision No. 10/2012/QD-TTg of February 10, amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Regulation on visa exemption for overseas Vietnamese, promulgated together with Prime Minister Decision No. 135/2007/QD-TTg of August 17, 2007, people entering Vietnam with a visa exemption certificate may stay in the country for up to 90 days each time.
For longer temporary stays, domestic organizations or individuals must give guarantee and there is a legitimate reason for the stay. Each stay duration may be prolonged for another 90 days several times.
A prolongation request must be submitted five days before the initial stay duration expires.
To apply for a prolongation, an applicant must have a valid passport and a visa renewal or modification and stay duration prolongation request made according to a set form and certified by the commune/ward police office.-
