The maximum fine to be imposed on institutional or individual polluters in the country will be VND 2 billion or VND 1 billion, respectively.

Under Government Decree No. 155/2016/ND-CP of November 14, 2016, on sanctioning of administrative violations in the field of environmental protection, individuals who violate the regulations on environmental protection in industrial parks, export processing zones, hi-tech parks, industrial clusters, trade-service complexes, traditional craft villages, and aquaculture zones will be fined between VND 5 million and VND 500 million.
Those who discharge wastes, especially harmful wastes, against the environmental protection regulations will be fined between VND 300,000 and VND 1 billion.
A fine of between VND 250 million and VND 1 billion will be levied on individuals who pollute the marine environment.
For the same act of administrative violation, the fine level applicable to organizations will double that applicable to individuals.
The new regulation will take effect on February 1, 2017, and replace Decree No. 179/2013/ND-CP.- (VLLF)
