Nation accepts children’s rights protocol
The Government has proposed the State President to withdraw reservations to Clauses 1, 2, 3 and 4, Article 5, regarding extradition of the Optional Protocol to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution, and Child Pornography, in an attempt to better protect children’s rights.

The proposal stemmed from the situation that Vietnam’s current legal system has basically satisfied regulations on obligations of member nations with regard to extradition of criminals provided for in the above Clauses.

The move would help improve the international legal framework, offering opportunities for international cooperation on child protection, prevent and punish acts of trafficking of children and child pornography, and increase the effectiveness of crime prevention and control.

In order to implement these Clauses after the withdrawal of reservations is effective, the Government suggested the satisfaction of relevant conditions, such as raising public awareness about crime prevention and control, enhancing protection of children’s rights, and improving professional qualifications of legal assistance staff.-
