At this session, scheduled to last until late November, the NA is expected to pass 18 codes and laws and 14 resolutions.

The to-be-passed codes and laws include the revised Civil Code, revised Penal Code, revised Criminal Procedure Code, revised Civil Procedure Code and the laws concerning oversight activities of the National Assembly and People’s Councils, referendum, and charges and fees, to name a few.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the session, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung stressed the session had a large workload as the country was exerting efforts to fulfill the socio-economic development tasks for 2015 and the 2011-15 five-year period.

At the same time, Party Committees at all levels are organizing congresses and preparations are being made for the election of deputies to the XIVth National Assembly and People’s Councils, the NA leader said.

The NA would spend more than half of the session’s time on lawmaking work, Hung said, noting that the NA would give opinions on eight laws, including those related to associations, press, access to information, beliefs and religions, and child protection, care and education.

The NA leader required deputies to study and properly assess the situation and implementation of socio-economic and state budget tasks in 2015, point out achievements, advantages, difficulties and weaknesses, then find out causes and draw lessons for proposing objectives, tasks and solutions for 2016.

During this session, the NA would decide to form the National Election Council, elect the Chairperson of the National Election Council and the NA Secretary General, and approve the titles of Vice Chairperson and member of the National Election Council.

The NA would also decide on the date for election of deputies to the XIVth National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels of the 2016-20 tenure.- (VLLF)
