Ministries, sectors and localities should take comprehensive measures to control price hikes and closely monitor increasing land and house prices, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said at the Government’s May regular meeting on June 1 in Hanoi.

He pinpointed a number of major solutions that could be taken in the second half of this year to boost socio-economic development, including the adoption of mechanisms and policies to remove hindrances to production and business activities.

Prime Minister Dung requested the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the electricity sector to work together to supply sufficient power for production and daily-life needs.

The State Bank of Vietnam was asked to instruct commercial banks to implement interest rate reduction measures for deposits and loans and make appropriate adjustments to exchange rates between Vietnam dong and foreign currencies.

He emphasized the need to speed up the disbursement of investment capital, especially capital from the state budget, government bond and development investment credit.

At this meeting, cabinet members discussed major tasks and solutions to be implemented for the rest of the year and commented on a report on the impacts of Vietnam’s three-year membership in the World Trade Organization.-
