PM urges sectors, local administrations to join hands in promoting tourism
With a view to creating a breakthrough in, and improving the competitiveness and sustainable development of, the nation’s tourism, the Prime Minister issued on July 2 Directive No. 14/CT-TTg, on enhancing the effective state management, addressing weaknesses, and promoting the development of tourism.

Under the Directive, ministers, heads of ministerial-level agencies and government-attached agencies and chairpersons of provincial-level People’s Committees are requested to effectively direct the implementation of Government Resolution No. 92/NQ-CP of December 8, 2014, on measures to promote Vietnamese tourism development in the new period, Prime Minister Directive No. 18/CT-TTg of September 4, 2013, on enhancing the management of the tourism environment and ensuring security and safety for tourists, and other related documents.

Specifically, the provincial-level administrations must tighten price management by requesting service providers in tourist sites and areas to post up prices publicly and sell their products only at posted prices, and tourism companies to strictly implement tour programs and schedules under signed contracts with tourists and ensure service quality, and promptly imposing sanctions against violations, including suspension of business activities or request for license revocation.

Besides, management boards and owners of tourist sites and areas must put an end to the situation of unlicensed operation of taxis and other tourist transport vehicles, failure to post up taxi fares or collection of fares not at posted fare rates, and publicize their phone numbers and have a functional unit on duty around the clock to receive and settle complaints and petitions of tourists and other arising problems. They must also make statistics and report on solved cases to functional agencies when requested.

Chairpersons of district- and commune-level People’s Committees are requested to intensify inspecting and handling violators and take direct responsibility for violations committed in their localities.

The Prime Minister assigns the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to call on stronger involvement of tourism associations and enterprises and further coordinate with related ministries and sectors in promoting tourism together with the Vietnamese culture and images. It is also tasked to promptly submit the plan to set up a fund supporting tourism development to the Prime Minister for approval and continue to propose policies to attract international tourists and offer unilateral visa exemption to more countries.-
