Vietnam and China have agreed to bring their bilateral ties to a new height to become comprehensive and strategic cooperative partners.

The agreement was reached between Communist Party of Vietnam General Secretary Nong Duc Manh and Communist Party of China General Secretary and State President Hu Jintao during the former’s official visit to China from May 30 to June 2.

In a joint statement released after the visit, the two sides agreed to further their mutual support and assistance in various domains, increase mutual understanding, and deepen cooperation for mutual benefits.

They also agreed to actively seek new areas of cooperation to boost commercial growth and keep increasing two-way trade turnover, and, at the same time, take practical and effective measures to improve commercial structure for a balanced development of bilateral trade.

The two leaders witnessed the signing of two governmental-level agreements on cooperation in plant protection and quarantine and in animal and veterinary quarantine; a project to produce nitrogenous fertilizer from coal dust in Vietnam’s Ninh Binh province; and a number of economic and trade deals on China’s provision of preferential credits and loans to Vietnam.

The two sides also agreed to early sign a new regulation on border management in order to build a border of peace, friendship and cooperation.-
