The Ministry of Planning and Investment and the National Committee for International Economic Cooperation on April 2 hosted in Hanoi a conference to brief on the World Trade Organization (WTO)’s Government Procurement Agreement (GPA).
The conference, the first of its kind in Vietnam, was an opportunity for local and international experts to discuss and share information and support the Vietnamese Government in making initial preparations for GPA accession.
According to the WTO, the GPA was to date the only legally binding agreement focusing on government procurement with the purpose of opening up as much of this business as possible to international competition.
Vietnam was studying international regulations on government procurement to speed up its involvement in the agreement as an observer, said Planning and Investment Ministry’s Bidding Management Department director Dang Huy Dong.
The Bidding Management Department would study and submit to the Government logical steps and policies to join the GPA which suit to the country’s economic situation.-
