The Party Central Committee of the 12th tenure during its first session on January 27 reelected Nguyen Phu Trong, Party General Secretary of the 11th tenure, as the Party General Secretary of the 12th tenure.
It also elected the Political Bureau composed of 19 members, the Secretariat with three members, and the Inspection Commission consisting of 21 members.

Speaking on January 28 at the closing session of the Congress after eight days’ sitting, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said the Congress has completed the set agenda in the spirit of solidarity, democracy, discipline and renewal.
He said the Congress has approved such important documents as the political report; report assessing the results of implementation of the 2011-15 socio-economic development tasks and socio-economic development orientations and tasks for the 2016-20 period; report reviewing the leadership and direction by the 11th Party Central Committee; report reviewing the implementation of the Charter of the Communist Party of Vietnam of the 11th tenure; and report reviewing the implementation of the Resolution of the 11th Party Central Committee’s fourth plenum regarding some urgent issues on Party building in the current situation.
The documents have been made based on the review of theoretical and practical issues over the 30 years of renewal, five years’ implementation of the Platform for national construction in the period of transition to socialism, the 2011-20 socio-economic development strategy, and two years’ implementation of the 2013 Constitution, as well as intelligence, will and aspirations of the entire Party, people and army, the Party leader said.
The Congress showed the resolve of the entire Party, people and army to attain in the coming years the general objective of building a pure and strong Party, enhancing the leading capacity and combating capacity of the Party, building a strong political system, and bringing into play the strengths of the entire nation and socialist democracy, he said.
To this end, the Congress has approved important policies and decisions directing the implementation of orientations and tasks for rapid and sustainable national development as well as national defense, Trong noted.
The Congress’ success has encouraged the entire Party, people and army to overcome difficulties and challenges and seize new opportunities to strive to turn Vietnam into a modern industrial nation, he said, calling for Party Committees at all levels and Party organizations to study the Resolution and documents approved at the Congress and draw up action programs and actions for realizing the Resolution of the Congress.- (VLLF)
