Vietnam was satisfied with the development of friendly relationship and multifaceted cooperation between the country and Japan, Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh told Japanese Emperor Akihito during his four-day official visit to Japan, starting from April 19.

In the Vietnam-Japan joint statement issued on April 20, the two sides reiterated their determination to further develop, in the spirit of strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia, bilateral ties through annually exchanging high-level visits and enhancing exchanges between national assemblies, political parties, local administrations and peoples.

By launching the Vietnam-Japan Common Initiative to Improve Business Environment Aimed at Raising Vietnam’s Competitive Edge, the two sides hoped it would bolster Japanese entrepreneurs’ investment in Vietnam.

The two countries agreed to increase cooperation in such new areas as peaceful utilization of nuclear energy, space development and environmentally friendly airplanes, in addition to cooperation in infrastructure, energy, manufacturing and allied industries, cargo transportation, information technology and telecommunications, natural disaster mitigation, and environmental protection.
