VN calls on Taiwan to respect sovereignty
Taiwanese leader Ma Ying-jeou’s visit to Ba Binh island in Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago on January 28 gravely violates Vietnam’s sovereignty and runs counter to Taiwan’s recent statements on maintaining peace and stability in the South China Sea (East Sea), Foreign Ministry Spokesman Le Hai Binh said.

“Once again, Vietnam confirms that it has a full legal foundation and historical evidence asserting its indisputable sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes,” Binh said.

Vietnam resolutely opposes the actions and requests that Taiwan immediately end its violations of Vietnam’s sovereignty as well as refrain from repeating similar actions, which accelerates tensions and complicates the situation in the East Sea, he added.-VNS
