Vietnam’s successes in surmounting global economic problems have helped the country gain more support from donors and development partners, who pledged a record assistance of USD 8.06 billion.
The pledge was made during the Consultative Group Meeting for Vietnam on December 3-4 in Hanoi, where the Vietnamese Government and its development partners discussed how to regain rapid and sustainable economic growth.
The pledged aid amount has shown a remarkable lift in confidence of international donors in Vietnam’s continuing progress and the international community’s commitment to help the country move forward.
The Vietnamese Government was on the right track, said World Bank country director to Vietnam Victoria Kwakwa at the closing session of the meeting, adding that donors and partners were committed to help the Vietnamese Government to accelerate.
The fund, including USD 6.6 billion in soft loans and the rest in grants, is a 30 per cent increase over last year’s figure.
The World Bank, pledging nearly USD 2.5 billion, the Asian Development Bank, around USD 1.5 billion, and Japan, USD 1.64 billion, remain the top three donors.-
