Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has urged accelerated and breakthrough actions across all sectors and levels of government so as to realize the nation’s socio-economic development targets amidst mounting global and domestic challenges.
Chaired the Government's regular meeting for July on August 7, connected virtually with leaders from all the 34 provinces and cities, the PM acknowledged the growing complexities of the global landscape, including reciprocal tariffs from the US, low global growth forecasts, prolonged conflicts in some regions, fierce strategic competition among major powers, and complicated non-traditional security issues.
He said that despite those formidable challenges, under the leadership of the Politburo and the Party Central Committee's Secretariat, the socio-economic performance has been on a robust trajectory.
The country's macro-economy in the first seven months of the year remained stable with inflation under control and major economic balances ensured. State budget deficits and public debt were well-managed while growth continued to accelerate.
All three major economic sectors – agriculture, industry, and services – showed positive development. Vietnam's total import-export turnover has exceeded USD 500 billion for the first time, with a trade surplus of over USD 10 billion. Cultural and social sectors got due attention, social welfare was guaranteed, and citizens' material and spiritual lives improved significantly, the Government leader underscored.
However, he highlighted major challenges during the seven-month span, stating traditional growth drivers were affected by global headwinds and domestic problems while new engines were in early stage and require time to promote their efficacy. Besides, institutional and legal frameworks as well as administrative procedures posed significant hurdles. Issues such as food safety, counterfeit goods, including fake medicine and dairy products, drug trafficking, and cybersecurity remained pressing concerns.
PM Chinh ordered Cabinet members and heads of ministries, sectors, and localities to focus discussions on the socio-economic performance in the seven months, propose key measures for the coming time, and assess the progress and results of the reorganization of administrative units and the rollout of the two-tier local administration structure.
He laid stress on the need to analyze both positive and negative factors significantly impacting the nation, identify focal measures for the coming time, ensure flexible and effective response to US reciprocal tariffs, and create solutions to renew traditional growth drivers while promoting new ones to achieve the 8.3-8.5 percent growth target for the whole year.
The PM also urged ministries, sectors, and localities to accelerate efforts to streamline at least 30 percent of business procedures, conditions and compliance costs, do away with substandard houses, and address long-delayed investment projects.
Additionally, he instructed relevant agencies to properly prepare for a series of major national events, including the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, with the inauguration and groundbreaking of key projects to mark these historic milestones.- (VNA/VLLF)
