Business community representatives joined others from national and US agencies at a seminar in Hanoi in late April to study new regulations on exports to the US market.

Businesses were recommended to abide by strict regulations on food processing, from production to consumption, if they did not want to risk losing their markets.

Vice Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Thanh Bien urged businesses to consult international experts how the three new US acts affect their export activities, and to hold direct talks with their US trade partners to be absolutely clear on the changes.

“It is important for businesses to combine production with information exchange and trade promotion to make the most of the US market,” he said.

The Ministry would look at measures to deal with those regulations which are unfair or unconformable with international practice, the vice minister said.

At the seminar, US experts emphasized many new points in the regulations relating to the import of wooden products and seafood, complete ban imposed on the trading of wild animals, and safety of exports in general.-
