Cabinet discusses more economic reforms

Comprehensive reforms were needed to achieve this year’s target economic growth rate of 5.8 percent, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said at the cabinet regular meeting on 30 July in Hanoi.

Restructuring would continue, especially at major economic groups and poorly performing commercial banks, he said, vowing that the Government would organize a national conference on restructuring public investments.

The Prime Minister asked ministries, sectors and localities to remove obstacles for businesses and improve the investment environment. He said the Government would issue a resolution on tax solutions and the National Assembly would consider the application of preferential corporate tax rates for supporting industries.

He also highlighted the importance of streamlining administrative procedures and told ministries and related agencies to evaluate the feasibility of applying the single-window model nationwide as soon as possible.

Cabinet members agreed that special attention should be given to restructuring state enterprises, disbursing foreign direct investment and official development assistance, and combating cross-border smuggling.-
